Parishes
The classic unit of the Church is the Diocese – and a Diocese is made up of parishes. Historically, each parish covered a certain geographical area, and had one or more church buildings and one or more clergy (usually a priest) leading services and providing pastoral care not only to the worshippers but also to the wider community. In the past, most Anglicans attended worship within the parish where they lived.
Today, while parishes still cover the whole area of the Diocese of Perth, the variety of parish life is much greater. Perth also has some congregations which gather from all over the map, some congregations with a basis of affiliation related to language (for example Chinese) or country of origin (for example Sudan and South Sudan). And neighbouring parishes often provide diverse styles of liturgy, small groups, community activities and theological focus. Many parishes have their own websites so that enquirers can discover their particular vision and strengths, as well as basics like service times and contact details. Use the ChurchFinder tab to your left, where you will find all the parishes of the Diocese listed. We invite you to contact one or more parishes to explore where God is preparing a place for you to belong.
