Crosslinks

The Crosslinks group was founded in 1981, the International Year of the Disabled, in response to a request made to Archbishop Peter Carnley by concerned Anglican parents of persons living with an intellectual disability.  The group currently consists of people with intellectual disabilities, their families, friends, carers, members of the Anglican Parish of Floreat Park and other supportive people.

The group was named "Crosslinks" to indicate our two-fold role:

(a) to provide a place of meeting for worship and fellowship under the Cross of Christ; and
(b) to be a crossover for people with an intellectual disability into the life of the Diocese.

Since its inception, Crosslinks has met each month, except in January, to fulfil these two purposes.

Many persons and families have been part of our life over the past 27 years; many have found their place within the life of the Diocese; many have found Crosslinks to be the spiritual home they have longed to know.  We continue to welcome people from various denominations who participate in the life of Crosslinks.

Until 2008, we met at St Mary's Anglican Parish in West Perth.  Crosslinks now meets at St Nicholas' Anglican Parish of Floreat Park.  St Nich's large, modern, well equipped church hall is easily accessible to people with physical disabilities, and has plenty of parking.  These features make St Nich's hall a wonderful venue for Crosslinks.

What happens at Crosslinks?  When we meet, we begin with joyful worship using a service especially designed for people with intellectual disabilities.  The service is written in straightforward, concrete language and includes bright songs.  The service usually lasts about 45 minutes.  We then share a meal served by the members of St Nich's and enjoy conversation for about 45 minutes.  These are very warm and friendly gatherings offering support and a sense of community to all who come along.

Our Chaplain is the Reverend Stephen Gibbs who is also Rector of the Anglican Parish of Floreat Park.  You are welcome to contact him to enquire about Crosslinks.  Please phone him at St Nicholas' office on 9387 1304 or (m) 045 037 3362, or write to him at PO Box 34, Floreat WA 6014.  The Reverend Les Marshall is our Deacon ministering to the Crosslinks community.
