The Diocese of Perth has a Diocesan Archives Committee which is charged with ensuring the records of the diocese are looked after and made available to parishes and the general public, subject to access.  The archives are situated on the 10th floor of the Law Chambers Building  and  are processed and arranged by the Archivist.  The archive provides a research room and assistance is provided by professional staff.  Records considered to be fragile are not available for research.

The Diocesan Archives and Parish Records

Archives are generally kept with the individual parishes,  the diocesan Archivist is happy to be of assistance with any enquires.  A  parish handbook for archives has been produced to help those in charge of parish records.  The diocesan archives will store parish records under certain circumstances, including fragility of very old records.  However, there is no need for parishes to transfer their records to the archives as long as they are properly cared for in the home parish.  All transfers to diocesan archives from parishes must be by consultation with the Archivist.

Some parish archives, including baptisms and marriages, have been deposited with J S Battye Library of West Australian History in the State Reference Library.  A list of archives arranged by their location are accessible from this link:
