Archbishop’s Good Friday Sermon

Good Friday
St George’s Cathedral
Friday 30 March 2018
Isaiah 52:13-53:12
I Corinthians 1:18-31
John 19:1-37

A lot of people will be ‘getting away from it all’ today and over the Easter weekend. Some will have
packed up the car and driven off, others will have booked a flight. In my childhood overworked and
overwrought parents packed up an old car with camping gear, fishing rods and arguing children, then
driving into the night so that the promise of fish for Good Friday breakfast could be delivered. Easter
was part of the background noise rather than main event.
