Thy Kingdom Come

9-19 May 2024
Join the global wave of prayer

From The Very Reverend Robert Key
Anglican Communion Lead for Thy Kingdom Come

Warmest greetings from Thy Kingdom Come, the annual wave of prayer begun nine years ago by the Archbishop of Canterbury, which God has richly blessed so that brothers and sisters in Christ in countries all over the world join in. This not only blesses our churches as we pray “Come Holy Spirit” over our countries, churches, communities and especially individuals we know who have not yet experienced the saving love of God in our Lord Jesus Christ, but also draws us closer together when so much in our modern world seeks to drive us apart.

This year Thy Kingdom Come runs from the 9th to 19th of May following, as it always does, the example of the early Christians in the Acts of the Apostles 1:14 who prayed together as they waited for the coming of the Holy Spirit to empower them for the evangelistic mission Christ had committed into their hands. We know that the Church’s need of the Holy Sprit’s life, power grace and holiness is as great today, all over the world, as it was two thousand years ago. We are called to prayer by both the command of Christ and the needs of our world.

This year the international nature of Thy Kingdom Come is clearer than ever. Not only will the Novena be translated into a number of different languages including Mandarin, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, Korean and Swahili but the author is Bishop Anthony Poggo, the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion. His studies each day are based on verses from Revelation and the photos, from different parts of the world, from Ghana to Fiji emphasise the Church as God’s worldwide family.

We are delighted to have the support of Christian leaders from across the denominations, including His Holiness Pope Francis and leaders of Orthodox, Baptist, Methodist and Pentecostal churches. We believe Christ is drawing us together, across the boundaries of history, as we seek to be his prayerful, prophetic, missionary people.

Archbishop Justin said this about Thy Kingdom Come 2024:

“The ninth to the nineteenth of May: ten days of what Scripture teaches us, praying for God’s kingdom to come, praying for people to find the life of Jesus and the love of Jesus for themselves. What is exciting me is that God listens! That is the point. So join in! Let us cry to God Thy Kingdom Come.”

The website www.thykingdomcome.global will have all the resources we produce and if smartphones are part of your culture then encourage your people to download the free app and take part in Thy Kingdom Come with brothers and sisters around the world.

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray from Ascension to Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus. What started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:

  • Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus
  • Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness

Whether you have joined in ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ before or not, we invite you to take part – along with churches from over 80 different denominations & traditions in nearly 90% of countries (172) around the world.
