Litany for the Holy Spirit

[Let us pray to God the Holy Spirit, saying, 'Come, Holy Spirit, come'.]

Come, Holy Spirit, creator, and renew the face of the earth.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come, Holy Spirit, counsellor and advocate. Touch our lips that we may pray aright and proclaim your word.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come, Holy Spirit, power from on high, make us agents of peace and ministers of wholeness.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come, Holy Spirit, giver of life, breathe on your Church and make us a living people, holy and free.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Come Holy Spirit, bond of love, pour your love into our hearts that we may serve you with joy.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

(APBA pg.196)

Prayer for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Almighty and everliving God,
you have given us new birth by water and the Spirit,
and have forgiven us our sins.
Strengthen us, we pray, with the Holy Spirit
that we may grow in grace.
Increase in us the spirit of wisdom
and understanding,
the spirit of discernment and inner strength,
the spirit of knowledge and true godliness,
and fill us with wonder and awe at your presence,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

(Adapted from the Service of Confirmation, APBA pg.90)

Prayer for the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit

Come, O Spirit of God,
and make within us your dwelling place and home.
May our darkness be dispelled by your light,
and our troubles calmed by your peace;
may all evil be redeemed by your love,
all pain transformed through the suffering of Christ,
and all dying glorified by his risen life. Amen.

(APBA pg.445)

Confession and Absolution
For use at the Eucharist

Let us affirm our trust in God’s mercy,
and confess that we need forgiveness.

A pause for reflection

Lord God, you created this world, and made us in your own image. Forgive us when we turn away from you.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Lord God, through your Son you overcame evil and death.
Rescue us from slavery to sin.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

Lord God, by your Spirit, you restore us to fellowship with you and with one another. Breathe your love and freedom into our lives.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

The priest says
Almighty God have mercy on you,
forgive you your sins,
and keep you in life eternal. Amen.
