Charitable Collections Licence

Charitable collections are governed by the Charitable Collections Act 1946 (WA). The Act requires a licence before certain funds can be collected from the public for charitable purposes. Charitable Purposes are defined as the affording of relief to diseased, sick, infirm, incurable, poor, destitute, helpless or unemployed persons, or to the dependants of any such persons.

A Charitable Collections Licence is not required for:

  • Offerings taken up as part of a church service, even if some of the funds are used for benevolent purposes.
  • Any fundraising/seeking of donations for the purpose of the running of the parish, delivering a service out of parish property, maintenance or developing a church building; which are defined as Religious Purposes.

Further information can be obtained by contacting the Charitable Collections Branch of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety on (08) 6552 9364 or by email at charities@dmirs.wa.gov.au.
