Crowdfunding

The use of crowdfunding by parishes is generally discouraged, because of the large social media base required to ensure success and the risk of reputational damage, if the project fails.

Like other forms of fundraising, crowdfunding for charitable purposes requires a Charitable Collections Licence; unless it for the purpose of the running of the parish, delivering a service out of parish property, maintenance or developing a church building; which are defined as Religious Purposes.

Crowdfunding is more applicable to an individual seeking to raise funds on their own behalf; or where a parent or guardian is seeking to raise funds for a child or dependent family member.

Further information is available on the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and safety website.
