The Anglican Parish of Canning

We are currently seeking a Director of Music who will be working closely with the Parish Priest and will have overall responsibility for the leadership, direction, accompaniment, and development of all musical content in church services. He / she is also required to work proactively with the Parish Priest and Church Council to promote, develop and extend the Church outreach programme through the development and conducting of a Church Community Choir, as well as other musical initiatives such as recitals.

As principal musician of the parish, he / she will be highly trained and skilled with piano and voice at a minimum and be able to lead other singers. Ability to play pipe organ, guitar, or any other instrument is highly desirable. Ability to play different styles of Christian music is also essential.

The Director of Music will be responsible for the development and leadership of a choir consisting of singers from existing parishioners and the wider community. To do so in a successful manner, he / she will have to have a commitment to the worship and mission of the Anglican Parish of Canning, as well as to conduct himself / herself at all times in a manner that befits a respected postholder in the church community. Promotion of the church as a concert venue will also be the responsibility of the successful candidate. Another important part of the role will be choosing a wide range of appropriate music for different occasions, particularly hymns, anthems and worship songs.

The successful candidate will be required to comply with the Diocesan ChurchSafe policy and provide a National Police Certificate (not older than 3 months) and Working with Children Check.

The Director of Music will be employed by the Anglican Diocese of Perth, Perth Diocesan Trustees. This is a part-time role at 0.2 FTE (7.5 hours per week) with an opportunity for additional engagement for weddings and funerals.
