Parish of Applecross
Rector, Parish of Applecross
The Parish of Applecross seeks a permanent, full-time Rector to work with us and to guide us as we embark on the next stage of our journey as a worshipping community, a parish family and in the service of our local community.
The Parish is situated in a leafy suburb on the southern bank of the Swan River and comprises two churches – St George’s in Applecross itself, and St David’s in the neighbouring suburb of Ardross. A well maintained, four-bedroom Rectory on a sizeable block is located close to St David’s Church, but is on a separate street and is separated from the church by a second smaller house, formerly the Curate’s house, which is currently rented. All Saints College, an Anglican school, is easily accessible and excellent state primary and secondary schools are nearby. Applecross is a short distance from Perth’s CBD and from Fremantle, both easily accessible by public transport.
We are a broad, inclusive, welcoming Parish that embraces a variety of worshipping traditions, with a more traditional early Sunday morning service at St George’s and a more contemporary later Sunday morning service at St David’s. We have a long running Playgroup that attracts many local families, and an exciting new venture, Café Bethlehem, run in partnership with Melville Cares, that provides an opportunity for people to connect and enjoy fellowship over a monthly lunch. We hope that our new Rector will embrace, nurture and develop these and other important ministries.
Parishioners are involved in a wide variety of other activities within and beyond the Parish. We have a long tradition of supporting our clergy, assisted by a committed group of LPMs, an active Parish Council, numerous volunteers who fill our rostered ministries, a dedicated choir and the services of a professional Director of Music. This provides a firm foundation from which a new Rector can seek to enrich our varied liturgical traditions.
In addition to the two churches, the Rectory and the former Curate’s house, a sizeable hall, used by a variety of community groups, and a suite of offices comprising the Parish Centre are also located on the St David’s site. We face the challenge of maintaining a significant and ageing property portfolio, yet have the opportunity to find imaginative ways of utilising it to further our mission and service, particularly given the location of St George’s close to the heart of Applecross and St David’s adjacent to the shops, businesses and new residential developments that comprise the Riseley Centre.
We seek a Rector who will embrace these varied but exciting challenges, and play a key role in helping us to develop our vision of a sustainable, vibrant Parish centred on faith, worship and service within the Parish family and in the wider community.
