Parish of Northam

The St Saviours Church and Cemetery is located on Katrine Road in the Shire of Northam, near the intersection of Katrine Road and the Northam-Toodyay Road, 15km from Northam.

The Church and Cemetery are managed by the Parish of Northam. Katrine Cemetery is a private cemetery which is open to the families of the pioneers of the district, known as the Friends of St Saviours, and funerals and interment of ashes may be arranged with the Parish Administrator. Weddings, Baptisms and Funerals may be conducted at St John’s Church Northam by arrangement with the Parish of Northam.

St Saviours Church

The land for the church was donated in 1861 by Simeon Viveash to the Anglican Church and the church was built by John Sewell, reportedly using ticket-of-leave men for its construction. The church was consecrated by Rev. Matthew Hale, the first Bishop of Perth, in 1862. The church is a stone structure with rendered quoining to door and window openings. It has leadlight gothic arched windows, the eastern great window being most notable. The interior of the church has rendered walls and a non-original floorboard floor. A small brick vestry has been added to the east side (rear) and the front stairway and porch, using the original bricks from the floor of the church, were added to the main entrance in the 1890s.

St Saviours Church is not open for church services due to structural issues.
