Honouring Those
Who Colour Our World
Stephanie Buckland, Chief Executive Officer, Amana Living
As we enter Advent, we reflect on the light we bring into each other’s lives and the blessings we receive. This sentiment resonates deeply as we recently celebrated Amana Living’s annual staff awards ceremony, a meaningful time to acknowledge the dedication and compassion of our staff.
This year’s theme, Colour Our World, symbolised the warmth and joy our team brings to the people we serve. Each award recipient has made an exceptional contribution, but collectively, they highlight the essence of our mission: to support older people to lead a fulfilling life.
During the ceremony, I shared the story of Audrey, one of our clients. Earlier this year, Audrey told me about her journey from isolation to companionship through Amana Living’s Kites social outings. Initially hesitant to join, she now cherishes the joy and friendship she’s found.
Our award winners embody this spirit of connection and care. Rose and Rupi from Wearne House were recognised for transforming the dining room into a warm and welcoming space. Their work has made mealtimes a happy, social time for residents - a small change that has had a big impact on their quality of life.
At Hale Hostel, Edelyn went above and beyond to honour a resident’s past as a playwright. She recreated a theatre-like environment so residents could watch one of Dawn’s plays in style. This thoughtful gesture was meaningful to Dawn and her family, celebrating her life’s work with respect and joy.
Over at Mosman Park, Rachel was awarded for her exceptional support of a terminally ill client, assisting her in writing to estranged family members in the lead-up to her death. Her compassion provided comfort during a challenging time, showcasing the profound difference our staff can make.
We also celebrated Neil, our head of IT. Since joining in 2022, Neil has transformed Amana Living’s technology landscape, smoothing processes and streamlining staff workflows. His efforts ensure that technology meaningfully supports our staff, clients and residents.
Longstanding Service Manager Sharon, who has led Wearne House since 2007, was also recognised for her compassionate leadership. Sharon’s inclusive approach positively impacts staff, residents, and their families.
Finally, we honoured long-serving staff, such as John, our head gardener, who has dedicated 30 years to creating beautiful gardens that bring joy to our residents.
Together, these moments of recognition remind us of our team’s profound impact on the lives we touch. This Advent, I give thanks for working alongside such dedicated individuals and for the lasting difference we make in our community.
