Living the Mission at
Frederick Irwin Anglican School

The Revd Peter Laurence OAM, CEO, AngliSchools

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8: 31-32).

From its beginning in 1991, Frederick Irwin Anglican School has been guided by a clear and simple mission: to offer students a strong education grounded in truth, faith and community.

What started with 175 students in Mandurah has grown into a vibrant school of more than 1,700 across two campuses; with Kindergarten to Year 12 at Meadow Springs and Kindergarten to Year 6 at Halls Head.

At the heart of school life is the motto, The Truth Will Set You Free. It’s more than just words, it’s a foundation. It reminds students, parents, caregivers and staff that education is not only about learning facts and figures, but about discovering who you are; how to treat others; and how to live with honesty, compassion and purpose.

Faith at the Centre

As an AngliSchool, Frederick Irwin places the Christian faith at the centre of its culture. Weekly Chapel services, Religious Studies classes, and a values-led ethos are part of the rhythm of school life for every student.

The School encourages students to put their faith into action through service, leadership and community involvement. Whether it’s through House-led fundraising, peer mentoring or helping in local projects, students are taught that leadership means serving God and serving neighbour.

A School That’s Grown with its Community

Over the years, Frederick Irwin has grown alongside the City of Mandurah.

The development of new facilities, such as the Rush Chapel, the Year 7 Transition Centre, and the more recent Kwobadiny Sports Centre, have all been part of the School’s effort to support every area of student life.

With AngliSchools acquisition in 2017 of a small Lutheran School operating on the site at Halls Head, the opening of the Halls Head Campus in 2018 was a milestone, helping meet growing demand and giving more local families the opportunity to be part of the Frederick Irwin community. The magnificent new Early Learning Centre and Administration Building at Halls Head, opened earlier this year, is another step in that journey.

Importantly these developments aren’t just about buildings. They reflect the School’s mission to care for the whole child, and to ensure students of all ages have the space and support to grow.

Part of Something Bigger

The School’s mission continues through its strong House system for pastoral care and competition; together with first-rate music and arts programs, sport, and a wide range of co-curricular opportunities. ‘Freddies’ as it’s known colloquially is a place where students are challenged to be curious, to take responsibility, and to use their gifts in the service of others, just as Christ taught his disciples 2,000 years ago.

‘Freddies’ was the fourth AngliSchool, established almost 35 years ago. As part of AngliSchools, it’s connected to a wider family of schools that share a common mission. We believe that an Anglican education is about helping young people grow into thoughtful, caring individuals who use their gifts to serve others; developing their spirit, heart, mind and body. Frederick Irwin Anglican School… proudly part of AngliSchools.
