Celebrating Nurses
at Amana Living
Stephanie Buckland, Chief Executive Officer, Amana Living
Last month, we celebrated International Nurses Day to recognise the vital role nurses play in the lives of Amana Living’s residents and clients. From our first nurse employed in the 1960s to the 242 registered nurses we employ today, nurses at every level are fundamental to maintaining and ensuring high standards of care.
This commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. Two of our nurses were recently acknowledged as finalists in the 2024 WA Nursing & Midwifery Excellence Awards.
Gia, Factor for Excellence in Residential Care and Dianna, Goodchild for Excellence in Enrolled Nursing.
Gia joined Amana Living as a carer before progressing to Registered Nurse, then Clinical Coordinator, and now Service Manager of Edward Collick Home in Kalgoorlie. Managing an aged care home in country WA is challenging, even with central support, yet Gia and her team consistently deliver exceptional care.
She does this by setting high clinical standards and creating a supportive work environment which prioritises staff development. She excels at forming external partnerships to meet the unique needs of her residents. And, together with her team, Gia provides a welcoming and caring home to Edward Collick residents, many of whom lack close family or friends.
Nearly 700 kilometres away in Mandurah, Dianna has been making a difference at Wearne House for almost 20 years. In her multifaceted role as an Enrolled Nurse, site safety representative and Infection Control champion, Dianna is pivotal to the Wearne team.
Described by her colleagues as dedicated, compassionate and reliable, Dianna has a passion for residential aged care. She builds strong, trusting relationships with residents while acting as the registered nurses’ right hand and supporting new starters.
Dianna is committed to resident-centric care. She is particularly passionate about ensuring comfort for those with chronic illnesses and providing quality end-of-life care. This love of aged care has inspired Dianna’s daughter and granddaughter to join her at Wearne House.
While we celebrate the remarkable contributions of Gia and Dianna, they represent a fraction of the dedicated professionals who make up our Amana Living family. Our nurses, admin staff, carers, support workers, maintenance officers, gardeners, and hospitality staff all embody the compassion and commitment that define our organisation as a member of the Anglican community.
