What in the world is
MU Perth up to?
December 2024 Update
Christine Brain, Promotion and Education Coordinator, Perth MU
Members of AMUA (Anglican Mothers’ Union Australia) include in their Objectives the desire to ‘maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service, to promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children and to help those whose family life has met with adversity’.
They do this in many ways – by focused prayer, by personal example, by supporting clergy, by offering their time and talents to women’s refuges and other agencies working for the well-being of families and by supporting projects in Australia and overseas.
Recognising the artistic talent of one of their number, and keen to support AMUA projects in the northern dioceses of Australia, members from Warnbro in the south to Quinns-Butler in the north, as well as some grandchildren, recently gathered at Carine-Duncraig for an Art Show as a fundraising venture for our Overseas and Northern Outreach Fund.
Most of the paintings were the work of Geraldine Tibbits, MU member at Carine-Duncraig, who completed many of the paintings over years of caravanning holidays in the northwest of our state. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of fellowship and a delicious soup and sandwich lunch, with some sweet treats to follow. Wendy Mabey, AMUA Overseas and Northern Outreach Convenor gave an informative talk outlining the current projects and where the funds raised would be used. The Revd Roger Kyngdon, from the Newman Parish in the Diocese of Northwest Australia, thanked all in attendance for their support.
Looking closer to home, as part of the Diocesan recognition of the ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence’ a service will be held on Saturday 7 December at Carine-Duncraig commencing at 10.00am. This will be led by the Perth MU Chaplain, The Revd Des Smit, with MU members taking part in the service and The Revd Gemma Baseley preaching. All are welcome to join in this time of reflection and prayer as we seek God’s help in ending domestic and family violence.
