Introducing Parkerville’s
New FDV Child and Youth Advocate!
We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our mission to support children, young people, and families impacted by trauma and abuse.
Thanks to a generous grant of $187,912 from the Government of Western Australia’s Criminal Property Confiscation Grant Program, we are expanding our Multi-Agency Investigation Support Team (MIST) with a crucial addition: the Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) Child and Youth Advocate.
Based at our Midland offices, our new FDV advocate will collaborate closely with professionals from diverse disciplines within the Multi-agency Investigation Support Team (MIST), including the Western Australia Police Force child abuse squad, psychologists, and family therapists. Together, they will provide comprehensive support tailored to the specific needs of children, young people, and families affected by various forms of trauma, including child sexual abuse, family and domestic violence, and other adverse childhood experiences.
Committed to facilitating healing and growth, the FDV Child and Youth Advocate will offer therapeutic trauma-informed interventions, psychoeducation, and ongoing support to individuals and families affected by FDV. They’ll play a pivotal role in offering consultancy and training to MIST staff, to help support children, and young people impacted by FDV. Additionally, their responsibilities will extend to linking families with other essential support services, such as homelessness and financial assistance. Beyond investigations, they’ll offer long-term support to children, young people and their families, providing individual and family psychoeducation as part of an integrated wrap-around service.
This marks our second FDV Specialist role, following the successful establishment of the George Jones Child, Youth and Family Centre team in Armadale last year, funded by the Ramsay Foundation. Such strategic additions are instrumental in addressing the multifaceted needs of our community.
With the steadfast support of the Government of Western Australia, we are poised to make an even greater impact in the lives of families across the region.
As we continue our vital work, we invite you to join us in supporting our EOFY tax appeal. Your generous donations will enable us to provide crucial assistance to children, young people, and families in Western Australia who are overcoming significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences.
