Moving Beyond Trauma
and Toward Possibility

Combined ShapePathNews and EventsPathNews

Trauma doesn’t define a child’s story. It’s what comes next that matters most.

As tax time approaches, Parkerville Children and Youth Care invites you to stand with children and families who have experienced child sexual and physical abuse – and help them move toward healing, safety and hope.

Across Western Australia, more children are bravely coming forward. WA Police have reported a 41.7% increase in child abuse cases between 2022 to 2024. Now more than ever, Parkerville’s Therapeutic Support Services are essential - ensuring children and families receive the support they need to heal and thrive. But we can’t do it without you.

This year, we’re sharing the story of Olivia* and her father, Josh* - a family who found strength in the face of adversity. Olivia was just 13 when she came to Parkerville. Bright and full of potential, she had slowly started to withdraw from the things she loved. With the support of her father and Parkerville’s compassionate team, Olivia began her journey through her trauma. Today’s she’s 18 - confident, optimistic, and planning a future filled with possibilities.

‘Every day at Parkerville, we meet children and young people who have experienced things no child ever should,’ said Kim Brooklyn, CEO of Parkerville Children and Youth Care.

‘Some have experienced child abuse. Some have been impacted by family violence.

The majority have been harmed by people they have known and/or trusted. Despite this, they keep trying to trust adults and they keep trying to show up and be present in their lives.

With the right support, they begin to process their trauma, rebuild their confidence, develop new skills, and rediscover hope for the future.’

When a child, young person, or family engages with Parkerville, they receive trauma-informed support. From counselling and advocacy to safe spaces and practical care, we make sure they never have to navigate their path to healing alone.

Right now, more children, young people, and families need our help. Families like Olivia’s* need to know that someone cares - and that support will be there when they’re ready to take the first step.

Your donation to Parkerville will ensure that every child who turns to Parkerville is met with safety, support, and a pathway to healing.

Olivia* is thriving today because someone like you made that possible. With your support, another child can take their first step toward a brighter future.
