HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh
1921 - 2021

By now you will have heard the news of the death of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on Friday 9 April 2021.

We hold The Queen, the Royal Family and all who mourn in our prayers.

Prince Philip died in Easter Week, the time when Christians give thanks for the firm and certain hope of resurrection to eternal life. It is to that hope that we commit him:

We give thanks to God for his long life, for his love of his country and the Commonwealth.

We pray for Queen Elizabeth and every member of the Royal family, and all who mourn.

We entrust Prince Philip to God’s eternal love and mercy in our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

‘I am the resurrection ad the life,’ says the Lord. ‘Those who believe in me, even though they die, yet will they live.’ John 11:25

The Cathedral bell will chime 99 times at 12.00noon today. Other service times will be posted on the St George’s Cathedral webpage.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has paid tribute to Prince Philip.
