Anglican Identity and Leadership
A new unit from Wollaston Theological College
and University of Divinity
Dr Mark Jennings, Associate Professor, Wollaston Theological College
On 14 May 2025, teachers, executives, and other professionals working with AngliSchools came together at Wollaston Theological College for the second session in Wollaston’s brand new, University of Divinity accredited unit, Anglican Identity and Leadership.
This exciting new unit is the culmination of an established and fruitful partnership between Wollaston Theological College and AngliSchools. Building on the success of the Wollaston Certificate for Anglican Leaders, offered to AngliSchools teachers seeking executive positions from 2019–2024, the new unit is the result of extensive consultation between Wollaston Theological College, the Anglican Diocese of Perth, and AngliSchools. Development was led by Associate Professor Mark Jennings, but was a collaborative effort of Wollaston faculty in partnership with AngliSchools. The unit reflects this, as it draws on the teaching and research strengths of Wollaston’s world class faculty, as well as expertise in AngliSchools and the Anglican Diocese of Perth.
The first module in the new unit, Anglican Identity and the Anglican Church, featured Wollaston Theological College’s new Principal and renowned Hebrew Bible academic Dr Meg Warner, together with AngliSchools Director of Anglican Identity The Reverend Dr Eleanor O’Donnell. The aforementioned second session, Understanding the Bible, once again featured Dr Warner collaborating with Associate Professor in New Testament Robert Myles. The next module, God-Talk, will be led by the Reverend Dr Christy Capper.
In addition, Anglican Identity and Leadership is nested in a three-unit Graduate Certificate in Divinity – the Wollaston Anglican Leadership Programme – which will equip students with a critical grounding in Anglican Identity, Christian theology, biblical studies and religion and secularism in modern Australia.
Building on an established and fruitful partnership with AngliSchools, the unit is a continuation of Wollaston’s tradition of providing education to professionals working in Anglican Schools across Australia.
Anglican Identity and Leadership is taught in five day-long modules.
Module 1 | Anglican Identity and the Anglican Church |
Module 2 | Understanding the Bible |
Module 3 | God-Talk - Introducing Christian Theology |
