The Diocesan Office is responsible for:

  • The recruitment of lay employees for positions within Diocesan Office.
  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing HR policies.
  • Providing advice to Diocesan lay staff.
  • Providing guidance to parishes for employment of lay staff.

Parish Employment

Parishes in the Diocese of Perth are not legal entities; however, staff can be employed by The Perth Diocesan Trustees (the legal entity) on behalf of the parish. 

If a parish is considering making a lay appointment they need to contact the Diocesan Secretary. It may be helpful to refer to the current Fair Work legislation at or the diocese Policy 1: Personnel Policy.

There are statutory, contractual and practical issues which parishes need to consider before making any appointments.  Parishes are encouraged to make contact with the Diocesan Secretary to obtain further advice at or on 9325 7455.
