Vision

We will be known for God’s love.

At the heart of Anglicanism is the reality that God so loved all of creation as to give Christ Jesus for our salvation. By the grace of God and by the power of the Holy Spirit we are called to share in this love.

In this new season, our vision for the Anglican Diocese of Perth is that we would be a beacon of God’s love in our communities - loving one another as we seek first the Kingdom of God.

Aware of our own need for transformation we want to be bold to confess where we have failed and our need for God’s grace. Our values hold us to account. They ask us to get on with what Jesus is all about.

We believe God’s love transforms.

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 CORINTHIANS 3:18

Values

The seven values that underpin our belief that God’s love transforms are:

1. We seek to be known by our love

We believe in the power of God’s grace to transform lives and our world in the direction of love. The stories of our lives, our families, our neighbourhoods and our world can be rewritten so love has the last word.

“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we ought to love one another.” 1 JOHN 4:7-10

2. We invest in being a people of prayer

God calls us to be a people who learn to long for what God longs for ‘on earth as it is in heaven’. We are connected by common prayer expressing our hearts in praise, lament and thanksgiving as we discern what the Holy Spirit is doing and dare to join in.

3. We commit to being trustworthy

God calls us to lives of deep integrity. In our hurting world it’s time we are known by lives that reflect God’s faithful compassion.

“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”
ISAIAH 1:17

4. We long to be humble

We long to be so Christ-centred that we are others-focused in lives of service. We long for the beauty of holiness to be expressed in an earthy humility that doesn’t consider oneself nothing but loses oneself in service to others because Christ is everything and he values, respects and loves everyone.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the other. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
PHILIPPIANS 2:3-5

5. We attend to listen

We are called to be attentive to God, to each other and all of creation. We want to be quick to listen and slow to speak. We long to be a listening presence that is responsive to the still small voice of God and the cry of those suffering.

“Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.”

REVELATION 3:20

6. We practice being as inclusive as Jesus

In the Gospels those who ran from uptight religious types ran towards Jesus. We long to welcome everyone as Christ has welcomed us; with generosity, joy, respect and a transformative love that heals and restores.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
JESUS - MATTHEW 11:28,29 (THE MESSAGE TRANSLATION)

7. We love to serve

We are called to reject ‘lording power over others’ and embrace service as the power of love with others. We long to find our definition of greatest in Christ Jesus as service.

“For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
MARK 10:45

Three Habits

Our Mission Plan 2020+ provides a flexible framework, underpinned by three habits which encourage us to have conversations about what we may need to do before we set out our local mission plan. The habits are:

Be Confident
We have renewed confidence in what God is doing.

Be Courageous
We courageously take the next step following Jesus: acknowledging our failings we seek to lead with mercy, pursuing healing and justice in the church and the world.

Be Compassionate

God’s compassion for us inspires and transforms our hearts towards all of creation as we reach out in loving service.

We pray that as we pray, talk, plan and look to our future, our communities will shine as beacons of God’s love inviting others to know Christ’s love.

Mission Plan Ambassadors are out and about engaging with parishioners, clergy, schools, agencies, and other key stakeholders in our communities to hear everyone’s views. To find out who your local Ambassador is or to download supporting templates and documents, please visit the Mission Plan website.
