Anglican EcoCare Commission
The Anglican EcoCare Commission is the environmental advocacy and education body for the Diocese of Perth, created to pursue the Fifth Mark of Mission, “to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and to sustain and renew the life of the earth”.
Anglican EcoCare was established as a Standing Commission of the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Perth in 2006, and was founded on the urging of Perth Anglicans.
The Anglican EcoCare Commission strives to sustain the earth through initiatives that promote environmental responsibility in a range of diverse settings – from worshipping to school and local communities. We do this through education, advocacy and expressions of eco theology.
We are proud to belong to a Diocese that considers the environment as something integral to the life and mission of the Church, as well as central to our spirituality. We act in accordance with the Anglican EcoCare Statute (2006).
Our current policy priorities are sustainability, energy, water and pollution. We hold membership with the Ecumenical Social Justice Roundtable, the Council of Churches WA, and the WA Civil Society Climate Roundtable and we are a founding member of the WA branch of the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change.
Our Commissioners are committed Anglicans, lay and ordained who promote the responsible stewardship of our creation through theological action and reflection. Our Chair Dr Susan Taylor, who is supported by:
- The Revd Sarah Stapleton
- The Reverend Barry Moss
- The Revd Bruce Hyde
- Mr Barry Healy
- Mr Lav Marendoli-Murray
- Mrs Sharon Zuiddam

Sustainable September - Resources
The worldwide church celebrates the Season of Creation throughout September. The Anglican Ecocare Commission of the Diocese of Perth has prepared prayers,
reflections and practical tips for ‘living light’ or reducing our footprint in four related topics - Food, shelter, travel and power. Little changes we make to our practical decisions, our thinking, our yearning and our praying can add up to a substantial improvement to our impact on our planet, our economy and on the
relationships with each other and with God.
Please use these offerings for your own private reflections, for study in small groups, or to add to your worship services.
News from the Ecocare Commission
Sustainable development - back to basics
I remember when the terms “sustainable” first started to be widely used during the 1980’s. We talked about it in many ways and it was often broken up into Economic, Social and Environmental Sustainability, and we started developing frameworks and academic programmes which explored what it all meant to all of us on this fragile planet.

Plastic Free July
Plastic misuse and disposal is not simply an environmental or economic problem. It is a spiritual and theological one.

World Environment Day
World Environment Day (5 June) is one of the most important days for environmental action and focus.

The Way Forward on Climate Change
The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture in Canberra and the NCCA co-hosted a seminar to reflect on and inform the way forward on Australia’s climate change policy.
