The Partnership Link program was born following the Diocese of Perth’s delegation to Eldoret in 2016. The hope was that parishes here in Perth could have the opportunity to partake in the joy of the world-wide communion with our sisters and brothers in Eldoret - developing relationships by the sharing of stories, photos and prayer.

In 2018, members from the diocese had the opportunity to share fellowship with the delegation from Kenya here in Perth. From that night, a link was formed between Holy Cross, Melville and the wonderful lay reader Rose Serem of Bishop Muge Memorial Chapel, Eldoret.

Currently there are 10 metropolitan parishes, 2 rural parishes and 1 school linked. A second school will be linked soon.

In 2022, representatives from parishes met to celebrate and share their experiences. We also discussed ideas on how to improve the linking process. During the meeting we were joined by some folk from Eldoret via Zoom. The following are key learnings from the day:

  1. Communications between PiM and link parishes in Perth need to be regular, using a group email to all those in the link communication groups.
  2. WhatsApp is the best way to communicate with Eldoret.
  3. Forming a group to share communications assists.
  4. Video contact greatly enhances the relationship.
  5. To spread the word about links within our parishes it is best to use a variety of methods of communications eg prayers, verbal, presentations, photos, shared video links
  6. Current link parishes are the best advocates to encourage others to develop a link.

The team at Holy Cross, Melville communicates regularly - sometimes daily other times monthly. Holy Cross and Bishop Muge Memorial Chapel share prayerful exchanges, such as prayers on the set days and holy days, when there are life and world issues - the building of their new church, drought, then flooding, COVID pandemic, a legal and peaceful election process, MU banner installation and the passing of Queen Elizabeth ll.
