Partnership in Mission (PiM)

Partner Diocese: Eldoret, Kenya

Partnership in Mission (PIM) with Eldoret Parish, Kenya is primarily a relational partnership rather than a financial reliance of one on the other. In partnership, we support each other in all aspects of mission and ministry with prayer, ideas, encouragement, and resources.

The partnership began informally in 2011 when two Perth clergy visited Eldoret to participate in a workshop with women clergy and theological students at St Paul’s University (SPU) in LIMURU.

A closer relationship developed between the two Dioceses, prompting the decision at Perth Synod 2012 to explore the possibility of journeying together. This formally commenced with Bishop Christopher Rutto and other delegates from Eldoret visiting Perth, and the signing of a preliminary Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Perth Synod 2014.

In January 2016, the Reverend Canon Angela Webb and Mrs Jill Bowman, members of the Diocesan Partnership in Mission group, along with Bishop Jeremy James (Partnership-in-Mission Chair at that time), travelled to Eldoret, Kenya to deepen the relationships established between our Dioceses. Whilst in Eldoret, the group were joined by Dr Julianne Stewart, Programs Director for Anglican Board of Mission.

The visit included opportunities to meet and worship with diocesan senior staff, local parishes, women in ministry, schools and the community supported by the Community Based Rehabilitation Centre. Synod 2017 recommitted a further three years to the PIM between the Dioceses of Perth and Eldoret allocating 0.7% of the Diocesan Mission budget for the relief of poverty to this partnership.

Being in partnership is an outward sign of us being in communion with each other as we strive to grow in our communion with God. The body of Christ cannot be contained within any one Diocese, and our being in partnership is one way to demonstrate the need we have for each other in our want to live, and be, the body of Christ.

If you are interested in becoming a partner in mission contact Jill Bowman, Parish of Melville.
