Experience and background

I come to supervision with 30 plus years of pastoral experience in the Lutheran Church of Australia.

I have served as a congregational pastor serving small to medium churches in Melbourne, Canberra and Perth. I have also served as a denominational leader for several years providing support, encouragement and oversight to groups of pastors and congregations. In this role I have also had connections with rural and inner-city churches and have faced a variety of leadership challenges.

From this background I know that working with others is both rewarding and demanding and that attending to oneself as we serve is vital. I see supervision as part of the self-care that we need to flourish for the long term in work or ministry.

    Working together

I believe that a good supervision relationship is one that can bring great benefit to you in your ministry, leadership, community, practice – wherever it is that you serve. It offers the chance to step aside from the business and busyness of your work to reflect on your work practice, your effectiveness and your well-being. From this practice of reflection flow insights that can help you to continue to grow as a pastor, practitioner or leader.

As a supervisor I place a high priority on maintaining a quality relationship between supervisor and supervisee. I believe that as the relationship of supervision deepens so does the depth of the insights that can be gained by our shared reflection. Therefore trust, honesty and openness are qualities I seek to practice and encourage.

My faith background informs my work in that I believe that grace is an essential part of healthy living. None of us are perfect so we need grace to provide us with the safe foundation from which to face our fears and failures as well as our triumphs. You can expect a gracious approach from me as a supervisor.

I hope that as our supervision develops I will become a trusted colleague who can walk alongside you as you traverse the journey of work.

This is a snapshot of how I see supervision and I look forward to unpacking this understanding of supervision further with you. However, I especially look forward to hearing from you about the kind of supervision you are seeking because in the end our supervision belongs first and foremost to you.
